China Tightens Reins On Advertising
BEIJING (Jan. 14) XINHUA - China is taking concrete measures to tighten the advertising industry.

The content of advertisements will be further standardized concentrating on presswork, advertisements selling tonics, medical equipment and TV commercial ads, said Wang Jinjie, an official with the State Administration for Industry and Commerce.

In recent years, other new forms of advertising have emerged in China, such as Internet ads and TV direct sales ads. enriching the advertisement market beyond measure. However, illegal practices have increased due to a lack of laws and regulations.

Efforts will be made to improve the censor system, including training programs for personnel, add consumer complaint hot lines and provide more consultation services.

China dealt with 39,000 advertisement infringement cases by November last year, with fines totaling 43.98 million yuan.
