Italian clothier Benetton Group SpA, known for its vibrant colors and controversial advertising, will launch a new ad campaign next week that will focus on death row prisoners in the United States.
The campaign, titled "Looking Death in the Face," will debut in the February issue of Talk magazine, which will reach subscribers Monday. The full campaign will be presented on Jan. 13.
"It will include photos and interviews with prisoners on death row in U.S. prisons," Mark Major, director of communications for Benetton U.S. Corp., said yesterday. He said the company hoped the campaign would spark renewed debate over capital punishment.
Benetton's artistic director, Oliviero Toscani, also serves as artistic director for Talk, the Miramax-Hearst venture headed by high-profile editor Tina Brown.
