Course Objectives and Means to Achieving Them:
The purpose of the course is to acquaint the student with essentials of advertising and advertising strategy. Advertising’s role in the marketing plan will be stressed, and the managerial aspects of advertising will be emphasized.
The objectives will be achieved through various components which include the following: reading assignments, exercises, lectures, and class discussion.
Course requirements:
The student must be current in her/his reading assignments. Discussion of the chapters is tentatively listed; it is the student’s responsibility to pace himself/herself so as to be current with topics discussed in class. Therefore, the professor urges you to read chapters well in advance of the days indicated on the schedule.
Students are required to submit written exercises listed on the syllabus according to the date due. All assignments must be typed and will not be accepted late. Assignments are limited to three double-spaced pages plus attachments/exhibits. (We will incorporate your findings from the exercises into class discussion.)
Students will also be asked to participate in in-class written exercises. These will be short exercises explained during the individual classes. They are designed to encourage participation. No makeups will be available; no credit will be given for missed participation.
Two non-cumulative tests are required. Information from the textbook and class lectures will be included. The exams will be a mix of objective and short-answer questions.
