8. RECOMMENDATION:

Ask your department Chairperson or Dean to write a recommendation (on school letterhead) specifying how the program will enhance your teaching and/or research.

The recommendation must be mailed separately to the address found at the end of this page, postmarked by February 12, 2016. Recommendations will not be accepted by fax or email.

9. STATEMENT:

Your statement will help a potential host company determine your fit within their organization. Please be concise when making your points and limit your statement to 500 words maximum.

  1. Why you wish to participate in the VPP, including how this experience will benefit you and your students.
  2. What specific advertising topics you are interested in that might be a focus of your VPP experience.
  3. What advertising-related topic you will discuss during the Lunchtime Talk (see VPP Fact Sheet). Lunchtime Talks will be delivered in a TED Talk format - 20 minutes (not including Q&A), will include advertising and be concise.

11. VIDEO:

Your video will also help a potential host company determine your fit within their organization. Videos shot with a cell phone or a computer's webcam are acceptable. We are not looking for sleek, professional videos. Videos must cover one of the following topics:

  1. Most interesting teaching moment or research finding in your career.
  2. Most interesting/surprising/impressive example of advertising/marketing that has caught your eye in the past year or two, and why.
  3. Discuss something about yourself that is not on your application.
  4. What is your passion?
  5. Most striking thing you have noticed about student culture today on your campus, especially as it contrasts with student culture from your own days as an undergrad.
  6. A teaser about your Lunchtime Talk/research.

12. SELECTION PROCESS:

A committee of representatives from the advertising industry and academia will make a selection based on: professor's research, statement of purpose and need for exposure to the industry.

13. COMPANY PLACEMENT:

Once professors have been selected, the AEF will place professors with an agency or company. Every attempt will be made to match the professor’s experience and objectives with the most appropriate host agency or company. Once placement has been made, the AEF strongly suggests a meeting with the company program coordinator to discuss program objectives prior to the program.

VPP PROGRAM FOLLOW UP:

During the academic year following the VPP, professors will:

  1. Submit a detailed evaluation of their experience following the program.
  2. Participate in the Inside Advertising Speakers Program.
  3. Inform colleagues and career officers about the AEF and its programs.
  4. Utilize aef.com, ADText and Advertising & Society Review as classroom resources.
